Getting married within two weeks meant the vintage wedding of Katie Mattner and Tony Tucker needed to be in two parts.
Tony, 33 and hailing from the USA, proposed to girlfriend Katie, 29, in Perth only two weeks before he was due back in his home country. “As we were preparing for him to leave, we were looking at budgets and options about when we’d get to see each other again,” explains Katie. “Then we had an idea: What if we got married straight away? We wouldn’t have to spend time apart and it’d be more cost effective.”
So while also studying full-time at university and becoming an aunty, Katie began planning Part One of their wedding which would include six guests on July 7, 2014.
“We got married 15 days after the proposal, on a rainy Monday morning, in the Perth Registry Office. I was wearing an ivory and black striped, long sleeved dress, an elegant long pearl necklace, patent black shoes, and a gorgeous birdcage veil,” says Katie.
Later on July 26, 2014, the pair celebrated Part Two with about 50 guests. “Having almost three weeks to plan this wedding felt so easy compared to the first,” laughs Katie. The ceremony took place at Woodloes Homestead Chapel in Cannington and an intimate reception was held at Table 78 in West Perth.
“My immediate family and close friends were in attendance at the registry, and we shared the wedding breakfast at Fraser’s in King’s Park,” says Katie.
“The theme was vintage-inspired complete with a simple but sexy silk wedding dress from Flannel,” says Katie of Part Two.
Katie’s 1920s-style hair and makeup was by Creations by Kassy.
“Achieving two weddings in 34 days, on just $10,000 – including the wedding rings – was quite a feat,” laughs Katie.
