Emily Jones got the celebrity treatment when she returned to her hometown for her romantic wedding to Mike Hughes.
“One of my special memories started before I even arrived at church,” Emily, 26, explains. “I stepped out of my parents’ cottage to find the street full of neighbours and their friends waiting to wish me well and wave me off to church.”
“After the ceremony the street was full of people out of the shops waving at the car as we drove past. The incredible community spirit of Criccieth really set the tone of the day.”
The Reading couple, who both hail from North Wales, enjoyed a two-year engagement before their romantic wedding. “It gave us the time to enjoy the feeling of being engaged (and save every penny),” the bride says.
Emily and Mike, 28, returned to Criccieth, North Wales for their elegant celebrations on August 8, 2015. The couple wed in front of 100 guests at St Catherine’s Church before the reception at Bron Eifion Country House Hotel, a regular haunt for family celebrations.
Emily says planning the big day was a real joy. “When it came to the decor we chose things based on our taste and enjoyment without worrying too much about a theme, and it all came together perfectly,” she says.
“If you both like each thing you choose, its inevitable you’ll like the overall look when it’s put together.”

Mike looked dashing in his blue Prince of Wales check suit, while his groomsmen wore grey silk-blend suits from Debenhams.
Emily’s one-off gown had a 1950s feel thanks to its elaborate veil and ankle-length design.
“Our cake was a bespoke design of four tiers with handmade icing flowers that reflected our floral arrangements,” Emily says.
“The wedding day was luckily on one of the hottest days of the year. Guests from London and the South were amazed at the blue skies and beautiful surroundings,” the bride says.
