Aussie expats Leisha and Joe now call London home, and consequently wanted a British touch at their destination garden party wedding in Sydney.
The couple, aged 33 and 37 respectively, married at Jaspers Berry in NSW, Australia, on December 23, 2017 with 145 guests. They met in London, and had their very first date at Columbia Road Flower Market in Shoreditch. Many European trips together followed before settling in Pimlico.
For their wedding day, Leisha and Joe were keen to incorporate their Sri Lankan-Australian and Italian heritage under the theme of a colonial-style celebration. “We had a Sri Lankan Buddhist slash English colonial garden party theme with lots of food including woodfired pizzas,” explains the bride. At the ceremony, rituals like tying the pinky finger and breaking a flaming coconut were incorporated.
For the reception, guests were treated to a ‘pimp your prosecco’ station, serving Aperol Spritz, rosé, prosecco and slushies, and lawn games including Jenga, quoits and a life-size marble chess set. “Afterwards, guests moved to The Orangery for a sit-down meal, a few speeches, the vintage Gatsby chocolate dessert table, espresso martinis and a live band,” recalls the bride.

The bride purchased her classic shoes from Rainbow Club.
Sri Lankan Buddhist traditions featured heavily at the couple’s ceremony in Sydney.
A pimp your prosecco station provided plenty of drink options for guests.
As well as a designer saree, London-based bride Leisha had a second wedding gown; a Zuhair Murad design purchased in Amsterdam.
Despite lavishness at every turn Leisha says their wedding “was the epitome of an easy wedding, as it was organised in six months from London. The day was stress-free and fun as all weddings should be!”
