Kat and Jimmy tore up the rule book when it came to their non-traditional fun wedding in Edinburgh.
“We did things our own way,” Kat, 30, says. “This allowed us to focus on celebrating in the most meaningful way to us and sharing that with everyone we love.”
The couple walked down the aisle together at the Dissection Room at Summerhall on September 15, 2017 in front of 80 family and friends.
Groom Jimmy, 32, is from Finland and the couple were sure to involve his family in the ceremony.
“Even though it was spoken in English, we had Jimmy’s brother and sister stand with us during
the vows and they held up cards with the a translation of the vows in Finnish for people to see. Jimmy’s parents also joined us to help pour the quaich for the first drink of our marriage,” Kat says.
Celebrations continued at the same venue, which celebrated the couple’s other great loves – music, beer and food.
“With support from our wedding planner we were able to tailor every part of the wedding to suit our style and make sure we had a very fun, informal atmosphere that we and our guests could enjoy,” the bride says.
“In the end, the whole day was fantastic. We were able to enjoy all the best bits of our relationship so far and share that with those closest to us.”

Despite his Finnish roots, Jimmy and his groomsmen stuck to Scottish tradition, dressed by The Kilt Store.
Despite not planning to wear a traditional wedding dress, Kat fell in love with this gown from Justin Alexander. She teamed it with gold heels from Harriet Wilde and a hair vine from Corrine Smith Design.
“We didn’t want a big fancy wedding cake so we asked a few of our family and friends to bake their signature recipe and bring it along. We ended up with a table full of different cakes, which meant there was something for everyone to enjoy,” Kat says.
Kat and Jimmy met while on university exchange in The Netherlands. “We quickly became friends and by the end of our six month stay we knew we couldn’t let go of our friendship. Since then we have finished our degrees, had a few careers, travelled and got our rescue dog, Luna,” Kat explains.
