Despite unfortunate timing – with their first meeting occurring shortly after the death of Jo’s father – Jo and Mark found their way back into one another’s arms.
“I had recently lost my father and dating or the beginning of a relationship was not the right time for me. Mark told me he didn’t care how long he needed to wait for me to recover: if he had to wait one year or 10 years, he would,” says the bride. “I remember on Christmas Eve at midnight I was at church alone, surrounded by happy families feeling so heartbroken. Out of the blue, Mark appeared in the church and found me. I was completely overwhelmed. I just felt saved and I always think my Dad sent him to me.”
The 33-year-old Liverpool couple wed on August 9, 2018 alongside eight close family and friends who flew out to Italy to celebrate the Lake Como destination wedding. Guests formed a semi-circle around the couple, who recited vows and tied the knot overlooking the lake.
“We knew we wanted the wedding to be private and intimate with only our immediate family. We unapologetically pleased ourselves first.”

Their ceremony, set on a balcony overlooking Lake Como, was the most important part for Jo and Mark.
“Beautiful food, wine and music were key following the ceremony as these are our favourite things in life,” says the bride.
The wedding party ended the day with a hearty Italian dinner at Villa Vittoria.
