After their first romance was promptly shut down by her parents, Brodie Ryan and Adam O’Callaghan trusted their hearts – and now have the papers to prove it.
“My parents found out I was seeing a guy five years my senior and were not overly impressed,” recalls Mildura (Vic) bride, Brodie. “Needless to say I was not impressed with their point of view [but] that was the end of our first romance.”
After a four-year hiatus, they reconnected, and on their third anniversary, Adam, now 30, surprised Brodie with a long-awaited trip to the Barossa Valley where he intended proposing in a hot air balloon.
“It didn’t happen in a hot air balloon like he wished for,” says Brodie, who despite learning of the failed surprise (due to a total fire ban) was still utterly shocked when Adam popped the question anyway – on bended knee, with Barossa Valley views and a Tiffany & Co. ring.
On February 2, 2014, wearing a Rapsimo Designs gown, the 24-year-old dental nurse married her teenage crush. The bohemian garden wedding on the banks of the Murray River in Gol Gol, NSW, was celebrated with 120 guests – including Brodie’s parents.
So, what do they think of their new son-in-law? “They’re ecstatic,” smiles the bride.
Brodie’s stunning silk gown was a creation of Ann Christou of Rapsimo Designs. It featured a cowl bustline and lace detail.
The style of the event was vintage bohemian combining steel blue outfits and floral bow ties for the boys and pretty lace cocktail frocks for the bridesmaids. Brodie selected all the flowers.
Guests continued to enjoy Ampleon Gardens from the beautiful marquee, dining on a three-course meal by gourmet chef Brian O’Donnell.
