Emma & Mackay celebrate love in elegant rustic wedding

Being in the army created some unique challenges when it came to Emma Grigson and Mackay Gair finding love.

Emma, 31, first met Mackay, 32, at college in Canberra in 2004 but, keen to focus on her studies, wanted to just remain friends.

After both were deployed to Afghanistan at different times, it wasn’t until 2011 that they shared their first date.

“Since that day we have been inseparable and we always said to each other that we could be miles apart, but we would only need each other ‘just us’,” Emma explains.

Despite plenty of romantic holidays, Mackay was waiting for the perfect moment to propose, until Emma took the lead.

“Given that I had so often answered his previous requests for a date with a no, I felt that it was only right I propose. So Valentine’s Day 2013, whilst five months pregnant, I got down on one knee and proposed,” Emma says.

“That very weekend the ring he had ordered arrived. The timing and our ability to be in sync could not have been more perfect.”

On November 7, 2014, Emma was walked down the aisle in the beautiful Adelaide Hills by gorgeous son Lawrence in front of 75 close family and friends.

The ceremony and reception at Glen Ewin Estate perfectly suited the couple’s elegant rustic wedding.

“Our wedding really did show that no matter what life circumstances come along, getting married to your best friend is easy, relaxed and simple,” Emma says.

Fourteen-month-old son Lawrence proudly walks his mum down the aisle.

Away with work for most of 2014, Emma discovered her Pronovias  Urbina gown in a Darwin dress shop. “I wanted something different and that I could use again – it’s being dyed emerald green ready for my next formal dinner,” she says.

“If we could do it again we would take more time out to just look at each other and realise just how magical the day and start of our next chapter is,” Emma says.
