Not even a wardrobe malfunction minutes before she was due to walk down the aisle was going to stop Anabelle Gervais marrying man of her dreams Robert MacKenzie.
Anabelle, 31, waited until the last moment to put on her gorgeous wedding gown, only for the zipper to break when her mum went to do it up.
“I surprised myself, keeping calm. I think my mum was stressed for all of us,” Annabelle, originally from Montreal, Canada, remembers.
But it was nothing that couldn’t be fixed with cotton and thread and soon the blushing bride was sewn into her dress and on her way to the aptly-named AnnaBella Chapel in Ilkley, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
There’s not much that can unsettle this low-key bride and builder husband, 33.
Naturally early risers, the pair opted for a morning wedding, but supplied a mobile coffee van for guests who were not such early birds.
The morning ceremony allowed the couple to share lunch with their 28 guests at EBB Waterfront Restaurant, Maroochydore.
“The nice part of the story is, because we got married so early, we had all the night for ourselves,” Anabelle says.
“From our hotel balcony we got to watch the sunset on the ocean, enjoyed room service and finished the night eating the rest of the wedding cake and drinking too much wine.”
Of their chapel venue, Anabelle says she and Robert felt at ease as soon as they walked in. Built three years ago, it has all the charm of something much older.
The Sunshine Coast pair stayed true to their roots – Anabelle is originally from Montreal, while Robert is Aussie through and through.
Anabelle chose a fun cake as a reminder of where the couple met, a resort in Mexico.
