An ancient Japanese legend, known as Senbazuru, promises that a wish is granted by the gods to anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes. For Fiona and Declan, that wish was for a lifetime of happiness together.
Over the 11 months planning their wedding, Leicester couple Fiona and Declan folded a thousand colour origami cranes as part of their wedding decor.
“For a while we lived with paper cranes in every room, but it was well worth it to see the venue with such a beautiful backdrop,” says Fiona, 25.
Under the watchful eye of the cranes, the pair’s wish came true on March 10, 2018. Fiona and Declan, 24, exchanged ‘suspiciously similar’ vows before 50 guests at The Carriage Hall in Plumtree in Nottingham.
Self confessed nerds, Fiona and Declan designed their industrial wedding to reflect their shared interests. “We both enjoy playing video games, board games, and watching anime.
“Our wedding perfectly reflected our love of all things nerd. Declan and his boys wore Legend of Zelda inspired button holes, and guests played Mario Kart on a large projector!
“It couldn’t have been more us. It was bright, colourful, silly and nerdy.”

Fiona’s Irregular Choice shoes were a gift from Declan the day he proposed. “He must’ve been paying attention when I pointed them out years ago as beautiful wedding shoes.”
Declan and his groomsmen donned crisp Ted Barker suits purchased from Slaters.
While Flowers by Philippa brightened the day with gorgeous flower arrangements, she also made the boys’ wonderfully nerdy Legend of Zelda button holes!
