Katy and James were adamant on having a small wedding with their close-knit families.
Just over 60 guests attended their rustic wedding on April 13, 2019 at Colville Hall, Essex. “Neither of us particularly like being in the spotlight, and so we wanted to emphasise the coming together of two families, as opposed to just two people,” explains Katy, 29. “We have a couple of small groups of friends, and made a point of introducing them to each other before the main day, to make it feel like one big group of people getting together to have a good time.”
The childhood sweethearts opted for a natural theme, with gentle creams and dark greens to embrace the natural environment around them. “During the meal, it was a delight to look around and see family members mixing as one, and friends laughing and enjoying themselves. It was exactly what we had hoped for,” smiles the bride.

“The venue had two onsite cottages, so family and friends could stay the night,” explains Katy.
Katy doesn’t consider herself a “dress” kind of girl, but she fell in love with this lace number.
“James and I have been together since we were 15 and 16 years old,” says the bride.
“We wanted casual, non-posed, photos of family and friends having a good time, and we got exactly that,” Katy says of their photographers.
“I was adamant that I would never make my own cake — far too much to think about! However, as the time to find a cake supplier drew closer, I realised that I didn’t want someone else making our cake,” laughs Katy.
