What bride doesn’t want to look like a princess on her wedding day?
Heidi Coxshall most definitely did. In fact, she wanted to look like one very specific princess, Princess Fiona from the animated movie Shrek.
She and hubby-to-be, Paul Bellas wanted to hold the ultimate fairytale wedding, so they donned costumes and painted their faces green, before taking their vows as Shrek and Princess Fiona during their Shrek-inspired wedding.
The couple, from the tiny European island of Jersey, were inspired by their four-year-old son, Leo’s love of the Shrek films.
The groom, 42-year-old Paul, told the Daily Mail, “Leo was watching his Shrek DVD, which he absolutely loves, and Heidi said wouldn’t it be nice if we had a little Shrek wedding.
“The message behind Shrek is that it doesn’t matter what you look like or who you are, it’s all about true love – I thought it sounded absolutely perfect.”
The bride dressed as herself for the all-important ceremony but changed into her hand-made ogre costume for the reception, a move that reflected Princess Fiona’s dilemma in the films since she turns into an ogress every night.
Heidi was given away by her brother, who was dressed as another Shrek character, Muffin Man, while the couple’s four-year-old son Leo dressed as Shrek’s best buddy, Donkey.
“All the guests embraced the idea and thoroughly enjoyed themselves – there were times when we fell about laughing,” said Paul.
Among the guests was Snow White, Cinderella, Robin Hood and Minnie Mouse.
