When Welsh couple Alison Jelley and Michael Roberts, both 26, planned their big white winter wedding, they didn’t expect it to be quite so white or wintry.
The bride and groom woke on the morning of their wedding only to discover more than 60cms (about 2 foot) of snow had fallen in their remote village of Llanferres during the night – and their church and most of their guests were snowed in.
But not one to let a little white powder stop him from doing his duties, the local pastor, Reverend Adrian Copping, rounded up dozens of locals, handed them shovels and started them digging.
And, boy, did they dig – for almost five hours in the freezing cold, no less.
The couple’s wedding photographer, Sarah Sadler, told The Express, “When I got to the church it was amazing to see the whole community pulling together, not just family and friends but people who didn’t even know the bride and groom were all helping.
Rev. Copping added,“It was a wonderful example of community spirit. At one point one of the shovellers pointed towards the sky and said someone seemed to have it in for us!”
