Hollywood heart throb George Clooney has opened up about his surprise proposal to wife, Amal.
“I knew fairly quickly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amal,” Clooney, 54, told CBS’ This Morning program while discussing how he popped the big question to his internationally renowned human barrister wife.
“When I asked her we had never talked about it. There wasn’t like ‘Maybe we should get married.’ I dropped it on her,” he said of his proposal to Amal, 37, after just seven months of dating.
His proposal was a simple, loving affair, which took place ‘at home’ after George created “a playlist of some of my Aunt Rosemary’s songs.”
(George’s ‘Aunt Rosemary’ was a chart-topping singer in the 1950s and starred alongside Bing Crosby in White Christmas.)
“It was completely unexpected, so, finally, I just said, ‘Listen, I’m 52 (at the time) and I’ve been on my knee now for about 28 minutes, so I gotta get an answer out of this or I’m gonna throw a hip out,” he joked.
So surprised was Amal, all she could manage was a few “wows’ and “Oh, my Gods’ – but not a ‘yes’ at first, though she eventually managed to say the all-important word.
The high-profile couple’s wedding was a lavish affair that took place in Venice, Italy in September 2014.
