From “Jofia’s” big day to Ricki-Lee Coulter’s Parisian nuptials, we look back at some of the best (and most lavish) celebrity weddings of 2015.
Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello (aka. “Jofia’s” wedding)
Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara married Magic Mike hunk Joe Manganiello in a lavish $3 million wedding in Florida. The couple’s wedding celebrations spanned over the course of three days with their 400 guests attending a rehearsal dinner, the extravagant wedding ceremony and a post nuptial brunch the following day. The wedding, which naturally garnered significant media attention, was nicknamed the ‘Jofia’ wedding – (Joe and Sofia), and the hashtag trended on social media for days after the extravagant affair.
Nicky Hilton and James Rothchild
British banking heir James Rothschild married hotel heiress Nicky Hilton at Kensington Palace – and the wedding was as glamorous as you’d expect when a Hilton and a billionaire wed. Nicky, 31, wore a stunning custom-made ivory and silver guipure lace Valentino wedding gown, which was embellished with intricate crystal beading and featured a three-metre-long train. Oh, and let’s not forget the custom-made Christian Louboutin heels inscribed with the billionaire couple’s initials!
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux
Jennifer Aniston married her long-time love and fiance of three years, Justin Theroux, in a super-secret wedding ceremony in Los Angeles. The couple’s guests were told they were attending a birthday party for Justin, when in fact Justin and Jen had really planned a wedding! Guests included Friends co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, as well as the bride’s bestie, talk-show host Chelsea Handler, Howard Stern, Jason Bateman, Emily Blunt, Ellen DeGeneres , Portia de Rossi and Jimmy Kimmel.
Guy Ritchie and Jacqui Ainsley
Guy Ritchie and model Jacqui Ainsley turned the grounds of their sprawling home, Ashcombe House in Wiltshire, into a luxury camping ground and housed guests in huge tents for the three days of festival-inspired wedding celebrations. Jacqui looked flawless in her custom-made Phillipa Lepley gown which she wore with a beautiful sheer veil and a crown of flowers. Guy looked equally stylish in a matching white suit, complete with a hat.
Sophie Hunter and Benedict Cumberbatch
The Imitation Game star Benedict Cumberbatch married his fiancee, director Sophie Hunter, in a romantic Valentine’s Day wedding ceremony. The couple wed in an intimate ceremony, with only 40 guests attending their nuptials at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Mottistone.
Stephen Fry and Elliot Spencer
British comedian, actor, author and entertainment genius Stephen Fry has married his partner, 27-year-old writer Elliot Spencer, just two weeks after announcing their engagement. Stephen, 57, announced the happy news to his 8.5 million Twitter followers in a typically amusing way, saying “Gosh. @ElliottGSpencer and I go into a room as two people, sign a book and leave as one. Amazing,” Stephen wrote on Twitter. With it, he shared a simply photo of the couple signing the Registry.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy
Former child actress Mary-Kate Olsen, 29, married her French banker fiance Olivier Sarkozy, 46, in a intimate ceremony in Manhattan. Guests were required to turn off their phones upon arrival and were offered bowls of cigarettes and cocktails throughout the course of the evening.
Kayla Ewell and Tanner Novlan
Vampire Diaries actress Kayla Ewell recently married her long-time boyfriend Tanner Novlan in an elegant Los Angeles ceremony. Kayla, who plays Vicki Donovan on the hit television show, invited her co-stars to attend her Los Angeles wedding. Nina Dobrev, Sara Canning and Michael Trevino were all in attendance, and pregnant Candice Accola was one of Kayla’s bridesmaids.
Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming
She’s been dubbed the Kim Kardashian of China, and Angelababy’s $20 million wedding to actor Huang Xiaoming certainly lived up to her nick name. Angelababy, who wore a made-to-measure couture Dior wedding gown, is an actress, singer and model, whose lavish wedding featured a ten-foot cake, a holographic castle, 200 guests, and is said to have cost double what Kim Kardashian and Kanye West paid for their luxurious Italian nuptials.
Tina Knowles and Richard Lawson
Tina Knowles, (aka Beyonce’s mum) and Richard Lawson, wed on a yacht in California in front of their closest friends and family – and all guests were asked to wear white – just like the bride and groom. Present was Beyonce, her husband Jay Z and their gorgeous daughter, Blue Ivy, who stole the show as flower girl.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
The couple, who became engaged on Christmas Eve 2013, enjoyed a second wedding ceremony at Depp’s private island, Little Hall’s Pond Cay, in the Bahamas over the weekend, however, they married legally at their Los Angeles home earlier in the week. The Bahamas ceremony, which took place under a flower-laden white marquee, was small and intimate, with fewer than 30 friends and family present.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis
Yes, the adorable duo, who welcomed their first child, daughter Wyatt, in October last year became engaged in February and, though speculation was rife that they were already married, they waited for America’s Fourth of July weekend to make it official. Little is know about their super-secret weekend nuptials except that it was so private guests were, reportedly, given just 24 hours notice of the ceremony.
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden
Reports out of Beverly Hills suggested huge white marquees, truckloads of white flowers and enough chairs and tables to seat a small army were delivered and set up on Benij and Cameron’s property the day of their wedding. Among the celebrity guests were Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow and, of course, Benji’s twin brother, Joel Madden, the other half of The Madden Brothers.
