Yes, it was a huge year for celebrity weddings, the biggest of which was Kate and William’s nuptials which were watched by an estimated global audience of about two billion people.
But, though royal couples from Monaco to Bhutan tied the knot, so too did well known actors, crooners and, of course, a reality TV star or two, one of whose wedding, unfortunately, lasted just 72 days.
January:
♥ It was a New Year’s Day wedding for country crooner Shania Twain and her second hubby, Swiss business man Frédéric Thiébaud. They married in Puerto Rico with forty friends and family to witness the event and Shania was walked down the aisle by her nine-year-old son, Eja.
February:
♥ Kelsey Grammer’s lavish New York City wedding to actress Kayte Walsh took place on the stage at the Longacre Theatre where both performed at some time during their respective careers. Poems penned by the bride and groom were read aloud and, according to reports, more than a few tears were shed during what is said to have been a very moving ceremony.
A grand and memorable reception was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel immediately afterwards.
March:
♥ Oscar winning actress Reese Witherspoon, 35, married entertainment agent Jim Toth, 40, at her Californian ranch estate. She looked pretty in pink in a blush-hued A-line dress by Monique Lhuillier. Elle Woods would have been most proud!
It was Reese’s second marriage. Her first was to actor Ryan Phillipe.
♥ Canadian crooner Michael Buble wed 23-year-old Argentinian model and soapie star Luisana Lopilato in a cival ceremony in Buenos Aires. The couple stayed in BA and followed their nuptials with a second, rather lavish and formal celebration with more than 300 guests in attendance.“It was a great night, really a beautiful night,” Michael is quoted as saying. “Her family is so special and my family is so special that when they came together, we danced ’til 7am.”
April:
♥ Though fans of the Kardashians may disagree, Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton at London’s Westminster Abbey was by far the most anticipated (and most watched) wedding of the year. The biggest secret of the biggest of big days was the new Duchess of Cambridge’s dress, which turned out to be an elegant ivory and satin Alexander McQueen gown designed (by Sarah Burton). It featured long, lacy sleeves and a gorgeous two-metre-long train.
May:
♥ Country music stars Blake Shelton, 35, and Miranda Lambert, 27, married on a cowhide rug beneath an arch made from deer antlers. The bride wore her mother’s wedding dress and custom-made cowboy boots, and the couple exchanged vows in a barn. To complete their very country wedding, they cut a brown wedding cake decorated to look like old, worn leather in a reception hall decked out with fishing and hunting gear. Yee-haw!
