An Argentine woman last week married the man convicted of murdering her twin sister.
Twenty-three-year-old Edith Casas (above) married Victor Cingolan in a civil ceremony on Valentine’s Day 2013, claiming he is innocent of her sister’s murder.
Unsurprisingly, none of the bride’s family were present at the controversial nuptials, however an angry mob did wait outside chanting and throwing eggs.
Cingolan, who is serving a 13-year sentence for the murder of model Johana Casas two years ago, is Johana’s former boyfriend and told a local radio station that his relationship with Edith started after Johana’s death.
Johana’s body was found in a remote Santa Cruz field in 2010 with two gunshots to the chest.
Last year Edith’s family attempted to stop the wedding, claiming she wasn’t of sound mind but the court found otherwise and allowed the nuptials to go ahead.
Edith says she and Victor, 28, wish to have children but that will have to wait as Victor was handcuffed and escorted back to prison by armed guards immediately after the wedding ceremony.
“I want to start a family with Victor because I love him. He is innocent,” Johana insisted before the ceremony.
Edith was forced to hide inside the Pico Truncado registry until 20 -or-so angry protestors left and it was safe for her to return home.
The twins’ mother, Marcelina del Carmen Orellana, was quoted by local media saying that she was baffled by her daughter’s choice or husband.
“I’ve always said that she is threatened by the Cingolani family; I’m afraid that something might happen to her because he is a killer and a manipulator.”
Their father, Valentin Casas, summed up the family’s feelings perfectly: “For me, they are both dead. Johana is with God and Edith with the devil.”
