Actor Alan Rickman wed is his partner of nearly 50 years, Rima Horton, in secret last year.
Rickman, 69, is best known for his role as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series. He wed long-time love Rima, 68, who is an economics professor with whom he has been in a relationship since the two were 19 and 18 respectively.
The couple have lived together for more than 40 years and have enjoyed a low-key but loving relationship for decades.
Rickman told HELLO! magazine once, “I think every relationship should be allowed to have its own rules. She’s tolerant. She’s incredibly tolerant. Unbelievably tolerant. Possibly a candidate for sainthood.”
Rickman shared the happy news during an interview with German newspaper Bild. He was asked the secret is to his very successful and long-term relationship despite not being married and he replied, “We are married. Just recently. It was great, because no one was there.
“After the wedding in New York we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and ate lunch.”
He added that the wedding ceremony was very low-key and that his new wife didn’t want an expensive diamond ring, but was content with a $265 ring that “she never wears.”
What a lovely story. Congrats to them both!
