Hertford Castle Gatehouse is a Grade I listed building dating from the mid 15th century situated in beautiful grounds at the heart of Hertford. The Castle was a Royal Palace for over 300 years, where Queen Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood. Hertford Castle Gatehouse is all that remains of Hertford Castle. The impressive building is set in secluded grounds, hidden from view by the surrounding 12th century flint and stone wall. Alongside the Castle lies the River Lea, which is the perfect backdrop for those memorable photographs.
Hertford Castle Gatehouse is licensed for civil ceremonies, partnerships and renewal of marriage vows. The Castle can accommodate for up to 60 guests during a Civil Ceremony.
Offering exclusive hire of the Downshire Suite, Hertford Castle can accommodate seated dining for up to 60 guests or up to 100 guests for a standing buffet.
The Castle Lawn overlooks the River Lea, Hertford Castle & the 12th Century flint & stone walls. This is a spectacular alternative to those with a larger guest list.
