Following years of meticulous research and restoration, Blackfriars boasts authentic and bespoke banners, distinctive antler chandeliers, stained glass windows and large oak dining tables and chairs so you can celebrate your love in a truly unique way
Refined and elegant, many of our modern classic dishes also pay homage to its medieval and historic past. Our popular five course wedding breakfast has been devised by our head chef and showcases the very best cuisine the North East has to offer.
We also have a dedicated team of experienced wedding coordinators and event managers at your disposal and ready to take care of your every need and want to make sure your big day runs smoothly.
About
Blackfriars was opened in 2001 by Andy and Sam Hook following on from the success of the critically acclaimed Sidney’s Restaurant in Tynemouth. The restaurant is now run by a team of exceptional staff headed up by Group Operations Manager Ruth Terrington, Manager Rebecca Blackith and Head Chef Chris Wardale.

Blackfriars benefits from two licences - firstly we are approved by Newcastle City Council for marriages and civil Partnerships in our Banquet Hall and our Tasting Room.
Blackfriars premesis allows us to serve food and alcohol until midnight (though last orders at the bar are 23.30), and also to host live and recorded music as lon as it cannot be heard beyond our boundaries. Live acoustic music workds well in our Banquet Hall, as does recorded music through our in-house sytem, though we are situated in a residential area and therefore cannot allow lous amplified music, live or recorded. And out of courtesy you must as your guests to leave quietly.
We can also serve drink outside until 7pm though again must abide by strict rules about keeping down any noise and being good neighbours.
