Tissington Hall was built in 1609 by Francis FitzHerbert to replace the moated fortification that guarded the Norman Church that straddles the hill in the centre of the village. For over 400 years now the Hall has presided over the picturesque Estate Village at the south of the Peak District and only 4 miles north of the market town of Ashbourne.
In 2009 the present incumbent, Sir Richard FitzHerbert, has celebrated the 400 years that the Hall has been built with lectures, guided walks and several visitor days when the listed building is open to the public. The history of the house itself and its allying estate has provided a fascinating story for the many visitors that have stayed at home in Britain over the summer and for the thousands of overseas’ visitors that are interested in our country’s heritage.
