You will need to consider the theme, style and colour scheme of the cake you would like; what flavour, or flavours you require; and whether you would like to complete the cake with either sugarpaste flowers, fresh flowers, or an appropriate cake topper.
Fresh Flowers not only look fantastic but smell amazing on your cake, but there are a few thing you need to consider before choosing fresh or Sugar. I don’t recommend mixing Fresh and Sugar flowers as the moisture from the flowers can cause the the sugar to melt, also you need to make sure the flowers have not been treated with any harmful pesticides. Secondly once the flowers have been cut to size for the cake they are no longer hydrated and will start to wilt and loose their shape. I recommend not using delicate flowers such as Tulips or Poppies, but Roses are a popular choice and stay fresh for approximately 6 hours. Daisies, Gerberas, Lilies and Magnolia’s look sensational on a cake and you will find they are more likely to last the duration of the reception.
