Sparklefizz is a family affair- started in 2004 by Suzi Dorey with the help and encouragement of her mother Wendy.
As a costume designer for theatre and dance, Suzi became interested in tiaras for use in her theatrical designs, and so the collection started to take shape. She was also creating handmade wedding stationery for people who found her by word of mouth and so as word spread, the tiaras, and stationery both rolled into one cohesive business idea, and Sparklefizz was born.
At the same time, Wendy (whose background is in patchwork and quilting) was exploring new ideas in beaded jewellery, and so these designs also became part of the Sparklefizz collection, alongside the wirework jewellery that Suzi was producing. Wendy does the fiddly tiny-bead jewellery and Suzi does the more funky and sculptural bits- a great combination!
Most of the work is created in Suzi’s studio in the attic of her Cardiff house; in time we would love a Sparklefizz shop but for now our ‘cottage industry’ works for us and helps keep our overheads down. It also means that when you come to the house for a design consultation, you sit down with a cup of tea in friendly and cosy surroundings and really get a one-on-one designer experience; and we get to make some great new friends!
