Congrats to Laura and Stuart who’ve been crowned our May Wedding of the Month winners!
They are in the running for a second honeymoon to Italy’s ‘green heart’, Umbria.
Laura Purves considers herself a chilled person, but being an organised bride meant her relaxed rustic wedding went off without a hitch.
She married her beau Stuart Houlston on September 10, 2016 in the presence of 120 guests in the day, and 150 in the evening. The couple, aged 25 and 29 respectively, celebrated a ceremony at Lealholm chapel, followed by a reception at Sandsend Bay Cottages in North Yorkshire.
“We took approximately 16 months to plan the wedding as we wanted to enjoy being engaged, savour the moment and not get too stressed,” explains Laura. “I had the majority of the main components booked; the reception, photographer, chapel, florist, caterer’s, band et cetera within a couple of months.”
Laura says the forward planning allowed her to spend extra time hunting for the perfect wedding dress and supplies. Her bridal gown was “everything” she had been looking for. “I was pinning all kinds of designs on the trusty Pinterest board when I came across this gorgeous Lusan Mandongus dress,” says Laura. “I was in love.”
And while the bride took the reins when it came to organisation, Stuart had plenty of say too. “I felt it was important that Stuart had his say,” smiles Laura.

The brides shoes from Rachel Simpson gave her the small heel she wanted. “They were the most comfy heels I have ever worn,” Laura says.
“Stuart picked his and the groomsmans’ suits (from Next Retail Ltd) and the food menu which was just delicious,” says the bride.
“Our minister Alan was a true showman. He made me and Stuart feel calm and collected adding many moments of humor,” smiles Laura.
“I wanted lots of wild big blooms that did all the talking,” the bride says of her flowers.
“I wanted my hair up in lose curls with natural flowers but sturdy enough to hold my lengthy veil,” explains Laura.
