University friends long before love blossomed, Elizabeth Prince and Peter Roe wanted to create a day that truly reflected themselves and their story.
Lizzie, 27, and Pete, 30, spent their first holiday together in Berlin. While there, the pair hired a Trabant – an East German car from before the Berlin Wall came down. To remember their first holiday, Lizzie and Pete bought a tiny model Trabant – and since then all travels have been accompanied by the Trabi. This set the overall theme of the day – relaxed and informal, with a large emphasis on travel.
Lizzie and Pete said ‘I do’ on March 5, 2016 among 90 loved ones at their relaxed informed wedding at Arkwright Rooms, Nottingham Trent University.
“We wanted to make sure everyone had a brilliant and memorable day – not just us!” says Lizzie.
Lizzie advises future newlyweds not to worry about the weather. “We had some rain and some sunshine,” she recalls. “But it was the best day!”
Pete advises couples DIYing their wedding decor that it’s never too early, “start earlier than you’d think necessary!”

The various jars and bottles were collected by the pair while holidaying in Croatia. “That raised a few eyebrows at airport security!” laughs Lizzie.
Lizzie’s highly textured lace gown found at Abigail’s Vintage Bridal is said to have been made in 1912. “It’s lovely to think someone else spent their exciting day wearing it!” says Lizzie.
“Pete and I fell in love with the amazing light in the venue,” says Lizzie.
A friend of Lizzie’s also happens to be a florist. An ode to Lizzie’s Welsh heritage, she chose daffodils for their spring wedding.
Of course, a Trabi was an obvious choice of wedding car.
The clay cake toppers were handmade by Lizzie and Pete themselves. Even their model Trabi accompanied the newlyweds on the cake!
Instead of numbers, tables were named by particular countries the pair (and their model Trabi) had visited. In keeping with the travel theme, the table plan was a map, and guest’s names were listed on luggage tags.
“Our wedding was a labour of love for both us and our families.”
