A stroll in the great outdoors led to love at first sight for Bastiaan Moulart and Lars Hoffmann – and their two pooches.
“Bas and I met in the dog park in Brussels,” Lars, 41, explains.
“It was love at first sight for the both of us as well as our dogs. I brought two vizslas into the family and Bas his Spanish greyhound. A whirlwind romance turned very serious quickly and we soon moved into a terraced house in the Brussels suburbs – a stones throw from the local forest, much to the delight of our dogs.”
Bas, 39, popped the question on a holiday to Morocco and the couple soon after set the date for their rustic chic wedding.
The pair, who have lived all over the world and moved to Colorado in the US a few months out from the wedding, chose converted farmhouse De Deugdzonde in the Flemish countryside for their big day celebrated with 180 guests.
The reception was held in a marquee at the venue, decorated with simple blooms and fairy lights for the rustic chic wedding on August 20, 2016.
Guests were treated to no less than three food tucks followed by an ice cream truck and American themed candy bar. “It was an amazing day, even a giant thunderstorm that blew over most of dinner tables did not deter us,” Lars says.
“Looking back at our wedding we are both still excited how everything came together and seeing all our friends from the different places we had lived was just wonderful – despite the stress beforehand, we’d do it all over again.”

Lars and Bas helped each other get ready, dressing in classic black tie. “We found two different suits, we didn’t want to look like twins with the same suits on,” Lars says.
The couple’s choice of venue perfectly suited their rustic chic theme.
“We have the same outlook in life and, maybe most importantly for a married couple, we know how to fight. We let is out, and we make up- no games, no nonsense and we hope that will last us a lifetime!” Lars says.
“A friend of ours, who is an amazing home-baker, made a perfectly iced, three-tier cake, the top tier was a rainbow cake, plus a lemon cake, and a chocolate cake. It was breathtaking!” Lars said.
