What do you do if your groom is facing not getting home in time for his wedding and your waiters don’t even show up? Take it in your stride.
Louise Mellish and Matthew Mills, both 29, may have faced a hiccup or three for their London wedding but it wasn’t going to phase the loved-up duo.
“Every detail of our wedding from dawn ‘til dusk was carefully planned and, although not without its hiccups along the way – including my grandfather being taken to hospital, Matt booking the wrong flight home from America the day before the wedding, and the cocktail waiters not turning up on the day – we took this in our stride and will always look back with happy memories,” says Louise.
The pair married on July 18, 2015 in a traditional church ceremony at Farm Street Church, Mayfair followed by a reception with 110 guests at Chelsea Old Town Hall. Louise said they chose the hall as it gave them a “fabulous DIY option” which they embraced.
“We looked predominantly online for inspiration and together, designed a wedding that we hoped would be both a truly whimsical and romantic day,” Louise explains. “We spent many hours trying to create a wedding that was 100 per cent original and where possible, made or designed things ourselves.”
The couple took a road trip around Antibes, Nice, Portofino, Lake Como and more for their honeymoon.

“I opted for a vintage lace dress that I then had customised with the addition of a longer train and silk under-layer,” says Louise.
“Ensign Bus Company provided a faboulously restored 1945 London bus, including a personalised sign and ribbons,” says Louise.
Catering was provided by Alyn Williams at the Westbury. Louise says, “He happened to respond to a cheeky email we sent one night asking if he would consider cooking for our wedding. The menu was a mix of our favourites from his restaurant and Alyn’s seasonal suggestions.”
The couple decorated their own reception space with the help of family and friends.
Of photographer Alex Beckett, Louise praises, “He seems to be incapable of taking a bad photo.”
